Books on Brushing Your Teeth: Discover the History and Science of Dental Care

If you prepare your little one for future dentist visits, reading to your little one about why and how they need to take of their teeth, and future dentists visits will help prepare them more mentally and emotionally. Studies have also shown that reading aloud to our children every day from as young as birth, will help strengthen the child parental bonds, help them through their language journey and enhance their literacy skills.

We do recommend talking to your child about their dental visit in a fun and exciting manner prior to the date. You could talk to them about the fun games in the reception area and show them pictures online so they become familiar with the setting. In addition, reading books to your child about going to the dentist and brushing teeth will be very helpful.

I can't write this post without singing the classic Raffi song about dental hygiene. . . "When you wake up in the morning, it's a quarter to one, and you want to have a little fun, you brush your teeth, you brush your teeth!"

Firstly, please dear child, do not wake up at a quarter to one, but if you must, I suppose there are worse things that you could do than brush your teeth. My kids are just awful about teeth brushing. They just don't want to do it. Every night, the same scene takes place. I tell them, "Right, it is time for bed. Brush your teeth please." And every night, this demand comes as a shock. That means for my ten year old, that's an entire decade of acting completely surprised that teeth must be brushed on a daily basis.

I wanted to get my kids excited about brushing their teeth and make sure they had what they needed to do a good job. These fit the bill. Each tooth brush comes with a stand to put everything in, the tooth brush, an extra head for the tooth brush, a cup and a sand timer. There are also a bunch of different animals you can get depending on what your kid likes. We have had them for about 6 months now and I would definitely buy them again.

Eventually, the acid can break down tooth enamel, causing cavities. Plaque that isn't removed can also harden into tartar, making it harder to keep teeth clean. Tartar buildup on your gums leads to inflammation that causes gum disease.

In choosing when to brush your teeth, you might also consider your diet. If you've eaten an acidic food or drink, avoid brushing your teeth right away. These acids weaken tooth enamel, and brushing too soon can remove enamel.

The aim of cleaning your teeth thoroughly is to remove the sticky bacterial film known as plaque from all of your tooth surfaces. The bacteria and their waste products can attack the teeth and gums, causing tooth decay or a gum inflammation (gingivitis). If left untreated, gingivitis can develop into periodontitis over time. In periodontitis, the inflammation has spread to the soft tissues and bone that support the teeth (the periodontium).

Some people think that professional teeth-cleaning will give them brighter teeth and keep the necks of their teeth (the part closest to the gums) cleaner. But if you carry on drinking coffee or black tea, or if you continue smoking, your teeth might be stained again within a few weeks.
